I'm a musician (piano & voice), composer, lyricist, writer, and poet, raised on jazz and good music, literature, and the arts. I also love animals, humor, gardening, organic chemistry, science, and things that are soulful, universal, and most of all, HIP.
Thanks to my hip parents, I was in the single digits when I first heard Stan Getz on that famous Jobim album that is probably ingrained in most of our psyches. My sax playing mom loved his tone and the way he played, and from the first note on, so have I.
Hey, 1 year and 7 months, can you believe it? I'm getting into playing like nothing else.
What is it that does this, this thing, this crazy thing?
Well, just got back from NY, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Broadway: Jersey Boys.
But the highlight for me was the night I spent at Dizzy's Coca Cola Jazz Club at Lincoln Ctr. Mulgrew Miller and his guys rocked the house. What a night.
Sorry for the rattling along.
Hope all is well.

Hey nice to hear from you too.
So, teach hands me a song to play & practice. So, for the last 3 days of practice I got hooked, line and sinker, so to speak. "After Charlie" Greg Yasinitsky is probably the hardest so far. The tempo is 208! Yeaks, my metro stops at this number.
Also, "When Sunny Gets Blue" Marvin Fisher. Love it, just brings the juice out of me. And lastly, not last..., is "Invitation" Bronislam Kaper. This sets me in the mood, so to speak.
What do you think, Dodge?

Hey lady, how are you?
The S has finally hit the fan, weather wise that is. Had a couple of 70 degree days last week, Now its high 20's and 18" of snow. What a trip.
Anyway, playing is good/practice works. God I love this horn. I re-red the Devil's Horn again and I think it fits me to a T!
Good vibes to you...

OMG Marissa!!! Your comment had me CRYING I was laughing so hard!!!! "Ethel, you're about a hundred dry-mouthed years old, don't you know any other songs? And where did you learn your phrasing? On a roller coaster?" Your sense of humor is right in line with mine.. only I'm not NEARLY as witty!! You've started my day off with a HUGE smile... I'll be breaking up from this all day as it pops in and out of my (1 lonely, little cell) brain!!
Hi Cool Cous, We are not on FB...at least not yet. We are content with myspace, but you mentioned you don't have the high speed connection for it. )o: There is some great music sites on myspace. ie: I was able to connect with the cool keyboardest/arranger Bob James. He was very sympathetic when I told him I had to give up my tenor sax due to a neck injury. I told him I still have all his Albums (which I do) starting from his Bob James One album, and how much I loved all his arrangements from the Genie Album including the theme for Taxi. Also Joan just opened a new page on myspace with alot of her great songs. She is so talented.
We took our dog Annie in this week for her yearly shots and asked the vet if he can also give me a shot for the swine flu that's going around. I told him I have been squealing a lot lately in my sleep. Of coarse he couldn't do that but did give us a sedative for Annie's fear of 4 of July fireworks and fear of thunder, and I think it might also be just what I need to help stop me from chasing cars. lol. Keep us informed to your latest endeavors . Hugs to you and all the pets. Lou and Eva
