Remembering Stan...

Stan Getz tribute - Norwegian Radio 1993 - Part 1 of 3 (I)

This is Part 1 of 3. The other two will follow later. The three parts are all from the first program of a series made for NRK.
I've tried to translate the Norwegian words in to English - sorry if you find some wrong words etc.etc. I did my best.

I struggled with it the whole yesterday evening and today. But the other 2 will be up in a day or two.
So it was for Bill Evans!! I didn't know that. I just think that the opening is gorgeous!!!

Yes, Europe adopted jazz very quickly and here in Norway we had a couple of very good journalists that taped alot, AND not to forget that one of these guys made copies when the Radio and TV stations started deleting old tapes and using them one more time for new interviews and shows. IDIOTS!! But some is still here for us to enjoy thanks to people like the journalist I mentioned (Johs Berg).

To hear Opus The Bop with Hank Jones, Max Roach and Curley Russell
then fast forward to 1989 at the Paris Tribute to Bird then there
are beautiful videos of Stan again with his old cohorts of Hank, Max and Percy Heath on bass.
Right there on YouTube. You can see how these guys loved to play together.
