I am always on the lookout for rare or hard to find recordings from Stan.
This would be a great place to talk about our latest discoveries.
Well to start the ball rolling. About a month ago I was told about
the Gerald Wilson Big Band Modern reissue. 15 tracks altogether.
Tracks 1-8 are a reissue from a 1954 studio session. Tracks 9-15
are a previously unissued 1950 concert in San Francisco's Veterans Memorial
with guest stars Wardell Gray, Stan Getz and Zoot Sims.
Each one of these great sax players is given a showcase
tune and they finish the concert all blowing great solos and trading fours
on Hollywood Freeway.
Stan plays the beautiful "Out Of Nowhere". The way he quotes Broadway is just
too much;)
Stan Getz Live in Bangkok
Two beautiful tracks with a very responsive audience.
Recorded on Nov 11 1967, Rama Hotel in Bangkok.
This is a bit more than six months after he had recorded the
Sweet Rain album.
Now with some of his old cohorts from the late fifties early sixties
we have a lovely version of Chick Corea's Windows and
Sweet Georgia Brown taken at a brisk tempo.
Stan ,Jan Johansson piano, George Riedel bass, Egil Johansen drums.
These tracks were first issued on the Philology Label, Sweetie Pie CD.
Stan Getz Brothers Band At The Apollo Theater
On that night of August 17 1950, Bird and Sarah Vaughan were on the program.
Stan and his band opens up the concert.
The personnel:
ts - Stan Getz(ldr), Zoot Sims, Don Lanphere
bs - Gerry Mulligan
tp - Al Porcino, Stan Fishelson, prob, Idrees Sulieman bass tp - Johnny Mandel
p - Billy Taylor
b - Tommy Potter
d - Roy Haynes
Two tracks: Four Brothers and Early Autumn.
Recordings done by Don Lanphere and Al Porcino.
Audio quality is quite good for that time.
Hi Denis

Living in Australia we dont have the same access to many of these DVD's
Could you possibly let me know what else is available.
Cheers
Geoff

That's all I could find.
Fortunately we have plenty of videos on Youtube and DailyMotion. Every day it seems
something new comes up.
JATP in Dusseldorf March 28 1960.
From Rheinhalle.
This is the same date when Stan and John Coltrane played on that now famous video which is very popular on YouTube.
Stan brought his band to the concert.
Stan Getz,ts Jan Johansson,p
Ray Brown,b Ed Thigpen,dr
Playing five beautiful tracks.
Stan is heard introducing some of them.
Out of Nowhere 10:21
The Thrill Is Gone 6:50
Out of Nowhere 9:10
Woody'n You 7:42
Unknown title 7:56
Since Out Of Nowhere is heard twice, this might come from a different date then March 28.
To my knowledge these tracks have never been issued as part of the JATP concert or
anywhere else.
A wonderful version of The Thrill is Gone. Stan was playing it quite frequently
in 1960. There are at least two other recorded versions by Stan around that time.
