About me:: I play tenor sax and clarinet. I have my own Jazz Trio and play locally in the Greater Tidewater area. In 2005 I retired from the Navy Band in Norfolk, VA.

I have seen Stan Getz play live at least 7 times between 1972 and 1983 in Baltimore, Washington DC and New York City. He always played great and I consider him one of the best and a definite influence on my playing.

Other tenor players I really like are Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Bill Perkins, Scott Hamilton and Harry Allen. Also when Tommy Newsom came back to this area after the Johnny Carson Show ended I heard him play tenor. He played great also and sounded a lot like Zoot and Al. Funny once he left Hollywood I never saw him play alto, only tenor.
