Remembering Stan...

A very great movie, you can see on "YOU TUBE". This film is about a black-American saxophonist in Paris in the 1950s. This musician will become the friend of a not understood French draftsman who worships the musician and tries to bring him out of his alcoholism. The musician name's is "Dale Turner" in the film. This movie is inspired by two of the big legends of the jazz: the saxophonist tenor Lester Young and the enigmatic and tortured pianist Bud Powell. Although the film is fictionalized, it is directly pulled by the biography of the pianist Bud Powell written by Francis Paudras. This last one was really the friend of Bud during its stay prolonged in Paris in 1959. The character of "Francis" in the film represents in fact the real Francis Paudras.

In a general way the film is melancholic and tragic, it follows the perpetual fight of Dale Turner which as artist is incredibly creative and prolific but which auto-destroys himself . A GREAT MOVIE !
