I'm a musician (piano & voice), composer, lyricist, writer, and poet, raised on jazz and good music, literature, and the arts. I also love animals, humor, gardening, organic chemistry, science, and things that are soulful, universal, and most of all, HIP.
Thanks to my hip parents, I was in the single digits when I first heard Stan Getz on that famous Jobim album that is probably ingrained in most of our psyches. My sax playing mom loved his tone and the way he played, and from the first note on, so have I.
Marissa!
I will learn with you.
Your music is so beautiful!
You are a great composer.
Marissa, I know we will do some music together .
Actually,my work here in Brazil is only as arranger, producer and keyboards in studio sessions. Sometimes I am invited to play one show for DVD.Only one...
I hope to record my CD at the end of the year and start a new musical life and down to the road .
I really would like to meet all that cool people I know here.
You are one ...
Honored for your friendship.
Sending Kisses and hugs from Brasil to USA
Nice to meet you Marissa. It sure is a small world. I am replying before I even look at your page here, but from what Jota has mentioned below, you also are musically talented. I feel bad for those who never had the chance to be brought up with music in their lives. It's very difficult to comprehend. We are blessed, yes indeed we are.
I've never been to Duluth, MN...but here in Oshkosh, we live on the water and it's just beautiful. Allot like the state of MN. Hopefully one day you'll make it back up to our neck of the woods and we can do lunch. I look forward to our friendship.
Smiles and warm hugs ;-))))))))
~Kim~
Marissa...I appologise for not reviewing your profile before responding. How very nice to know your mother played sax. I also remember all the old Stan Getz albums amongst other jazz artists as I was growing up. Etched in my mind for ever. But I have to say...you are also extremely musically inclined as well!! You have a wonderful soft soothing voice! I would love to see you perform some day. Not sure if I will ever make it to the lone star state though. We'll keep in touch...who knows if you will ever make it back up this way on a stage. The audience would be delighted in your presence.
Have a blessed day!!
~Kim~
Howdy Amazing,
Haven't spoken in a while- just got back from the Django camp, head exploding with music and ideas- I'll send you a note to go into more detail, if you want to hear.
Marissa,
Thank you for taking the time to say hello. Thank you for your complements and your condolences for my friend Marie. That means so much to me. I love when people comment on my name. My name is my mother's name backwards and her name is her father's name (only spelled differently). She never liked the name Hazel. It was my father's idea to turn the name backwards and give it to me. I think he had one to many cocktails one evening. LOL! The little cuttie kissing me is my son Mitchell (aspiring young musician). He is about 4 years old in this photo. He is 12 now and is growing a mustache. :) My how time flies. I ADORE your music!!! What a voice! Fabulous girl! You are very talented. It is such a pleasure to meet you. Take care. Lezah :)
Hi Marissa, First off, as an fellow animal lover you always will be given first priority. That means your messages will be read before all others. haha(o: Yes, its so nice to connect here at Stans Place. Thanks to dear, sweet Bev.
You music is the best. What a beautiful voice you have. Are you also playing keyboards as well in your compositions? If so, you are most amazingly gifted. Very soothing, and relaxing songs to to listen to. You have designed a really nice page as well here. We haven't figured out how to do that just yet. We see you are into chemistry, Lou is also into chemistry, he knows exactly how to make Eva explode. LOL (o; We are both a bit confused when you say you have 5 "nines," 4 "lines," and 2 "fins." please explain what that means when you get a chance. We think your saying: nines=cats, lines=dogs and fins=fish. are we correct? if so thats alot of pets! Have a great day and hope to talk more, Love from NY Eva (o; and Lou (o;
How's my favorite Mar doin'? Yeah, I truly do look forward to burnin' up the phone wires with ya very soon. We're getting Mommaboppa P prepared to leave for northern California tomorrow - she's teaching again at Madeline Eastman's Jazz Camp West. Pretty cool place - heard that not just from Mommaboppa P, but from many of the "campers," who range in age from say, about 6 to 76 (or something like that)! I'm thinking of driving to Saratoga in a couple of weeks to attend the concerts at the Skidmore summer jazz program. My old friend Pat LaBarbera is there and I haven't seen him in a few years. To have the opportunity to hear Pat, Bill Cunliffe, Curtis Fuller, Bobby Shew, Todd Coolman, Clayton Cameron...well, we'll see if I can get my act together and put it on Broadway (as we might say since I just returned from midtown Manhattan). I'll post some more rare Mr. Getz as soon as I can clear the desk here a bit! Sorry 'bout the high humidity - do you have air conditioning in them 'thar parts? Mine is going today even though it is only about 72 degrees...humidity is up here, too, making it a definite A/C day.
Love and vitamin supplements,

Hello Marissa:) You have got a wonderful voice! I finally got a little breather from my studies to come and travel around a bit and hear some music AND relax at the same time;) Many blessings to you:))
Awee:) You are so very kind Marissa, thank you. Yes, I would have to agree on my kiddos and grandbaby....they are most precious to me. YES! I think it would be so surreal and cool to actually meet face to face with so many winning sweet souls who share frienships as well as an adoration for Stan Getz and music in general. I see you love organic chemistry:) My daughter Dominique is a 4.0 Magna Cum Laud Texas A & M Chemistry Graduate (Is that parent braggery??? haha)
She is fun to shop with because she breaks down EVERY ingredient, say.. in a facewash, to the chemistry involved. Never ceases to amaze me and sometimes have a tear or two. I am just very humbly proud;) ) Have a beautiful evening as well as the week ahead. Keep making beautiful music with that wonderful voice...LOVE the listening. This is my "home away from home." (-;0 Blessings to you and yours
Hey Marissa, How great is that, a tribute concert to your Mom. We are both wondering what kind of sax Mom played ?
You were definitely Blessed to be raised with a family who loved jazz and encouraged a musical back round ! When I was a kid, I used to take my clarinet into the Bronx and play outside on the sidewalk. My late Uncle Dom ( God rest his soul ) used to yell down to me from his apartment window and requested if I could play "Far Far Away". For the life of me, I thought he was requesting a Song. LOL But life has a way of getting even, he later went bald only on the top center of his head, and I would always refer to his head as an abandoned birds nest. (:
These gas prices has got us staying close to home this year, as well as the whole nation. How's gas prices there in TX. Lowest price here is about $4.30 a gallon. Its sad, even the people who volunteer for -Meals On Wheels- to bring meals to the seniors and shut ins are stopping their volunteer work because they can't afford the gas to ride to their houses.
Sure hope there a change in the future.
Have a great time with the upcoming concert, Your Mom will be smiling at you. You'll be playing her favorites, so you can't go wrong. On that note. High C# I think, we'll say goodnight. Stay Blessed - Lou & Eva
Hi Marissa!
I haven't had much time to spend on line these days, but am taking a moment to 'troll'(LOL!) our little community. I don't know why, but I haven't heard your tracks until just now... and I have GOOSE BUMPS! You have a BEAUTIFUL voice Marissa. Beautiful! Actually, it sounds very much like the warm, lush tone of a tenor sax... your Stan quote above is very fitting! You and Stan would have sounded amazing together. Wish he was still around so that could happen! Thanks for sharing your tracks with us and for being a part of our Stan's forum!
Yes Marissa we are both 2nd generation Italians too, and if you ever caught the show "Everyone Loves Raymond" it really hits a little too close to home. haha Being on Long Island and all. That's where most of the Italians migrated to from the city. How did you migrate out as far as TX. ? Are there even any Pizzerias around ? lol Don't worry we'll call you Cousin Marrissa, and air mail some fine Italian food from NY. Meatballs, lasagna, manicotti, you name it! Although all these great foods will probably be the death of us. Now knowing how bad the carbs are for us.
We hope you be adding more of your songs to your player. We would love to hear more. Especially the one your Mom wrote for you. Do you plan on taping any of upcoming concert ? You could film it with a digital camera as a mov. file, and upload it right to you tube and then send all your friends the link.Even on your page here. Thats how we were able to put Paulie, the baby squirrel we raised last year onto our my space web page. Also Mike Barrone did that with his band thats also on our page. You tube does't charge you for that. Stop on by: http://www.myspace.com/louandeva
With hurricane Dolly now heading towards the TX coast as a class # 1 we hope you are safe and are not to close to the coast. Our other new and dear sweet friend Joan, "Sweet and Saxy" is also a TX resident. We will keep you both in our prayers. Get your rain gear ready, they were talking up to 15" of rain on the news. Let us know how you make out. luv, Lou and Eva
Hey Marissa....just stopped in to listen and say hello. Great way to take a break from the days doldrum activity lol I really love the song "Black Is"..very soothing which is always a wonderful thing. Blessings to you(-:0
Dear Marissa: Thank you for your message. It was all thanks to my dad that I acquired a great love and curiousity about music.I miss him terribly. The photo shows father and son in the studio. He told me I had to go home as I had been at the session long enough, so a photographer took a shot of us as I was giving him a goodbye kiss. I was not sitting at the console, just walking around in the studio. It was this moment that in earnest bonded me to music and further bonded me to my father. All the best,Steve
Marissa thank you. Great to hear from you. I am so glad it went well. That must have been quite a night. Would love to hear it. Great about the trio/quartet. It's nice to be able to do that.
Here we started the band practice for the new season;)
Love it. I was trying to get into another band but no luck yet.
Ah well .... will see;)
Thank you Marissa:) Well, I think in Austin I am pretty much safe, but all three of my kids are right at the bullseye of the brunt of IKE. Needless to say I am praying overtime as well as crying more than my share of tears....very unsettling feeling:/ Yes I will be glad when this has all blown over and I can sigh that big mothers only sigh of relief. Blessings to you & I appreciate your sweet frienship my Texas friend:)) Delete Comment
Actually tried to call you a few times over the past coupla weeks and I guess you have been out 'n about. I'll keep tryin' but just check in via email or somethin' so I know you are doing OK.
Hi Marissa,
Thanks for the warm greeting. It's a pleasure to meet you! We travel through Texarkana on the way to visit my mother, brother, sister-in law, and nieces, in Bowling Green, Kentucky every year. We are so exhilarated as we cross the state line to and from...
Isn't this a lovely page and idea? So grateful to Bev for creating it, and allowing Stan Getz fans around the world to pay tribute to his fantastic musicianship, while connecting and sharing with one another!
Please keep in touch, and thanks again for contacting me!
Your friend,
John
Hi Cousin, Thanks for the Sugar Bush squirrel gif. We found the Sugar Bush web site and had a such a laugh. There's so many great squirrel photos on it. A Lot of moving gifs. too. We don't know how they got that squirrel to sit through all those photo shoots. Did you try out the sausage bread recipe yet? You mentioned you already bake bread so adding the other ingredients are a breeze. Were getting ready for the Holidays here and if you and Michael should ever plan a trip to NY you gotta let us know! We are still awaiting a phone call from you. We know your on a very busy schedule. Hope to TTYS. Love from LI - Eva and Lou
Yeah, 'tis been a long time. No job yet and it is quite scary for me/us. First time I've been unemployed since the tender age of 19 and it has been a year. Anyway, the positive side of it is spending more time with the doggies, listening to music, etc. I hope you and doing well and it is so good hearing from you.
Thank you Marissa. Nice to hear from you. Also swingin' in the far north;))
I am happy that you have such a good time. Of course would love to hear those tunes;)
I finally made it into that other band I was telling you about this summer.
More on this later;))
By the way are you on MySpace Marissa ? Let me know so I can request you.
So I guess you're very busy with work. That's good.
Lots of work here also.

I am glad to hear you are doing well and singin too. I haven't been on any net either and God knows I belong to a million and one hehheee Take care of you and will ttyl...Luv ya much!! xoxo

Hi Marissa, Its starting to get pretty cold here. We were a little concerned what we were going do for Thanksgiving dinner this year with everything getting so tight and all. But it ends up we found a rent a center that will rent us a turkey for Thanksgiving. So long as we get it back by the next day! haha It was either that or buying one of those imitation turkeys again.lol Have a good one and Blessings to you, your family and pets. cousins Eva and Lou
Good evening from land of 27 degrees. Hey, not complaining, it was about 18 degrees last night at this time, so I guess we're havin' a heat wave. It was lovely making contact with Bob Freedman and checkin' out his website - he's a gem. I love you and hope you and hubby are keeping warm, too.
When I was a kid in the Bronx, we all played cowboys and indians and when someone said something unbelievable we all chimmed in with "Get out of Dodge!".
Anyway, stay happy and warm and keep the notes close to the heart.
frank
Ah, I thought there was some Italian in there....
I'm using the Rubank advanced methods saxophone book. I'll be in this book for at least a year and then once a month. And I thought learning to read music was hard! This book really tests me; a newbe at that.
So, long tones for 10-15 minutes, 1/2 an hour on the advanced book, then onto the fun stuff. I play Body and Soul, standard and the Coleman Hawkins version every day along with So Nice (Summer Sumba). Then I end with a few bars of Tenor Madness, Sonny Rollins and Watermellon Man. What a workout. I do this because I'm a late bloomer to music and from all the books I read, Devil's Horn and such, I'm very very late. My mentor, Stan Getz, well, you know his start. I'm late, but better late than never. I seem to be driven by a higher calling.
Hey, enough. What's your current passion? Have you ever been to SOTW forum? Lots of info, and BS also, but good reading and informative.

Hi Cool Cous, We are not on FB...at least not yet. We are content with myspace, but you mentioned you don't have the high speed connection for it. )o: There is some great music sites on myspace. ie: I was able to connect with the cool keyboardest/arranger Bob James. He was very sympathetic when I told him I had to give up my tenor sax due to a neck injury. I told him I still have all his Albums (which I do) starting from his Bob James One album, and how much I loved all his arrangements from the Genie Album including the theme for Taxi. Also Joan just opened a new page on myspace with alot of her great songs. She is so talented.
We took our dog Annie in this week for her yearly shots and asked the vet if he can also give me a shot for the swine flu that's going around. I told him I have been squealing a lot lately in my sleep. Of coarse he couldn't do that but did give us a sedative for Annie's fear of 4 of July fireworks and fear of thunder, and I think it might also be just what I need to help stop me from chasing cars. lol. Keep us informed to your latest endeavors . Hugs to you and all the pets. Lou and Eva
OMG Marissa!!! Your comment had me CRYING I was laughing so hard!!!! "Ethel, you're about a hundred dry-mouthed years old, don't you know any other songs? And where did you learn your phrasing? On a roller coaster?" Your sense of humor is right in line with mine.. only I'm not NEARLY as witty!! You've started my day off with a HUGE smile... I'll be breaking up from this all day as it pops in and out of my (1 lonely, little cell) brain!!
Hi try the link below...
myspace.com/psychicrobot (this band does its own original material), also in a cover band (soul, motown, soft rock etc etc) this is the big paying band as nobody will pay to hear original tracks unless famous, and that I'm not (at the minute)..
Are you going to grace us with some poetry?? LOL
Tony
Hi Cous, A belated Happy and Healthy New Year 2010. Its been pretty cold here in NY, but we found a way to keep warm! We try to think Summertime! Heres a song from Paul Desmonds "Summertime" album called "Samba with some Barbecue Sauce". The musicians with Paul are Herbie Hancock, Eumir Deodato, Jay Berliner, Joe Beck, Ron Carter, Idris Muhammad, Urbie Green, JJ Johnson, Bill Watrous, Kai Winding, Joe Shepley, Marvin Stamm, Mike Mainieri, + Airto Moreira. Hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you guys have been up to. XOXOXO Lou and Eva
Good morning. I got to listen to an album of Stan's that is not in everyones libarary, Sweet Rain and in particular, Litha. I was looking for a new song to practice and found Chick C's Litha, loved playing it. Then went to youtube and found Stan's version, wow!
I'm at the 2 1/2 year mark, what a trip. I decided to put an add on craigslist for a quartet to form. Lets see what happens. I got the studio now I need 2/3 others around my level who love Jazz to practice/record with. What do you think of this idea? Hope all is well, xxx

myspace.com/psychicrobot (this band does its own original material), also in a cover band (soul, motown, soft rock etc etc) this is the big paying band as nobody will pay to hear original tracks unless famous, and that I'm not (at the minute)..
Are you going to grace us with some poetry?? LOL

I'm at the 2 1/2 year mark, what a trip. I decided to put an add on craigslist for a quartet to form. Lets see what happens. I got the studio now I need 2/3 others around my level who love Jazz to practice/record with. What do you think of this idea? Hope all is well, xxx
