Thank you for friend-requesting me. It's a pleasure being friends with you here.
I heard Dexter, Einar, Erik and Jon at the Metropole Jazz House in Oslo. Dexter had a rather late arrival, but when he finally came on stage he lifted his horn and said with a big charming smile: "Have not fear, Dex is here." :) Everybody loved him.
Thank you for sending this to us.
We will send you "Me and My Piano" with Einar and Jon and a bassplayer Tor Hauge, but he is not among us anymore.
All the best
Egil
Thank you. More will be coming. Have you seen the BODY & SOUL videos pt. 1 & 2? also Joan DesCarpentier has a concert I did with Kenny Loggins on her page
Member Don Hill Played with Gerald Wilson and Armstrong in the 40s. He was The alto player with the Treniers for 55 years. He is 85 now and still gigs in Vegas.
Dear Denis
my computer crashed 2 weeks ago, am now getting most things back, this is the reason you have not heard from me. my address that you wanted is ; 55 Rider Gardens, Fishtoft, Boston. Lincolnshire. PE21 0Bl. U.K If you include your address in with the Cd , i'll send you alist of the private recordings i have, if their is something you would want i can make copies for you. The recording i have just read about with one of my favourite of the younger pianists, looks very interesting.

Thanks for checking in. Yes, I'm very, very sad . Gerry was a very good friend/extended family. I'm going out to L.A. in a few days for his memorial service. It means a lot to his wife Lynn and I guess it will also help me to come to terms with his passing, which I still cannot believe.
By the way, I hope to get to hear Don Menza while in L.A. It will be the only night other than Gerry's tribute that I'll be going out. The rest of the time will be spent with Lynn and family.
Thanks for keeping in touch. By the way, if you can find an out of print LP called "Hip Pocket," it is outstanding. I think it is on the Palo Alto label. Menza, Nick Brignola, Andy Simpkins, etc. Can't put my hands on my copy right now, but it was recorded live at the now-defunct club, Carmelo's. I think Carmelo's was in Sherman Oaks, CA.
Denis, I hope you're doing great up in the Great White North. I've been thinking about you and will email you soon. The concert is Aug. 19th and while I'm in Duluth, MN, I'll be just a little bit closer to Canada, so I'll wave to you from Lake Superior. If I could play sax I'd play you a tune over the waves. I'll think of you when I play one of those beautiful standards that we love so much. More to come soon.
Blessings to you & every key & pad on that horn of yours.
Great minds and hearts think alike. I loved Sal Nistico's playing, too. I did get to hear him live several times in the mid-70's at Buddy's Place in NYC, when Buddy disbanded the big band and had Sal, Sonny Fortune, Kenny Barron, Anthony Jackson, etc. I love his burning solos with Woody's 60's band, as well as the small group recordings. Sad that he didn't get to record more on his own. Off the top of my head, without looking downstairs, I know I have his CD, "Empty Room." I also have at least one private recording from Europe.
I've just been spending some time here. I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY! Such a good vibe. Maybe I should ditch the myspace and facebook and just hang here! I'm finding that I just don't have enough time to manage so many pages! Mine, Stan, Stella(!), Buddy, Zoot/Al and some others that I've kind of been ignoring! I like this one the best. (-: Dad would love this!
Yes, I'm in Chicago for the summer, but I've been traveling and teaching a lot! I was in Louisville the first two weeks of this month, teach at the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Camp. Then, last week, I was in Deland, Florida, teaching at a sax workshop for eighty saxophonists. I'm in town this week (Chicago) playing a concert at Millennium Park on Thursday, then I leave Friday for a week of teaching in London with Jamey Aebersold and his faculty for another jazz camp.
Hi Denis:) Thank you for stopping in to say hello. I appreciate your comment as well. That CD is beyond fabulous! It really does bring out the cha cha cha in me...lol. Have a wonderful day and abundant blessings to you(-:0
Hi Denis,
I think it is Lou Levy on those concert tracks, more his comping style than O.P. I especially liked Stan's innocence "my first time antwhere" comment, i wonder if Beverley has heard this, maybe you should send her a copy.
My other favourite is JJ's what a great group that was and what a trombone player.
now's the time
Roger
Forgot to mention that while in L.A., I went to Charlie O's specifically to hear Don Menza and while the drive was only a few miles from where I was staying, I would have driven a thousand miles - he's still one of the great tenor saxophonists alive today.
Actually, I believe Menza's gig is once a month at Charlie O's (on a Thursday, if I'm not mistaken). There really is an excellent jazz scene out there and has been since I started visiting the west coast on a regular basis back in the early 80's.
That was beautiful - I'm a huge Jackie Mac fan, too...used to hear him at the Village Vanguard quite often when living in the NY area and then last time I heard him live was at the Regattabar in Cambridge, MA - pure jazz heaven on earth. Many thanks for sharing.
Yes, I love both of the ones you mentioned. I also love his recording, "Swing, Swang, Swingin." I also have the LP of Jackie Mac and the lesser-known John Jenkins called "Alto Madness." I believe both are on Prestige???
Hi Denis!
Yes, I was briefly here... then had to leave my computer. My puppy is very sick. )-; He has kennel cough which has now turned into pneumonia. So I'm spending most of my time tending to him, trying to get him to take his meds, eat and drink. Poor little guy... I'm really hoping we wake up to a much better "Petey"! If not... then it's back to the vet.
Hey Denis, I hope you're doing great and having fun playing. Thank you for your good wishes message before the concert. It was quite a night, really a blast. I put my mom's first Conn sax on stage with me so I could feel like she was there. I'll keep you posted on the recording, I haven't heard it yet. We'll be doing it again next year. Now we're getting a trio/quartet together here and gearing up to gig. More to come, I just wanted to catch up with you and thank you for sending me your sax player's luck.
Dear Denis: Thank you for sharing some things about your life.We are about the same age.I will be 60 next month,on October 28th! Stay in touch, all the best,
Steve Getz
During this last week I realized the list of the Stan Getz recordings (unissued and issued ones) I have for the 1976-1991 period. You'll find this list as added file
You'll note that I've various french radio broadcasts, perhaps you'll be interested by some ones of them and I'll be happy to trade with you.
I'll be very happy to know your list.
I'm a specialist of Gerry Mulligan recordings and I'll be also very interested to know if you've radio, tv or private recordings of Gerry.
Hoping that I'll add the file with success
All the best from METZ

No -- it is never too late! I'll be back to visit you here soon -- just getting my feet wet again in the Stan Getz forum.
Sending good wishes from Hamilton - where we had beautiful weather today! Hope you did too!
Hi Denis
I only have 2 dvd,s of Stan (the Munich concer and the winery concert)but I see that there are a lot that I was not aware of.
Can you tell me what is available and how I can obtain copies.
Trust you are keeping well.

Just dropping by to say hello. Not much going on here. Going into Boston to hear Chuck Mangione next week, as our friend, Coleman Mellett is his guitarist. Looking forward to hearing saxophonist Gerry Neiwood, who has been with Mangione for quite a while. The week after that is Steve Smith's Jazz Legacy w/saxophonists Andy Fusco and Walt Weiskopf. Hoping things are doing fine with you and your family.
Hi Denis, i'm sorry for the delay in replying to you, i'll record that session for you, i have had a very bad cold and seem to have given it to my wife as well, so we are both suffering. also one of our cats had to be put to sleep( we have four, this one was named Hoagy), so a little sad time for us. On top of that i have mislaid your address, so please e-mail it to me, i would be much obliged.

Thanks Denis, Glad to be aboard tho I do not know how much I can contribute to this esteemed community. I knew Stan so long ago and am not a musician. Just sitting up here in Maine in my little gallery.
I am starting a Sunday Afternoon Jazz time called Java Jazz since I have Jinjer's Java" coffee shop. Ginger is my nick name. I am asking folks to bring in CDs or instruments and try a little jamming. We will see what happens. These things take time.
Just swingin' by to say hello to my bud, Denis. May all be well up in the far north. Things are groovin' in the far south, we're having fun playing with our jazz quartet. Nothing but great tunes from "Blue In Green" to "Have You Met Miss Jones." I hope to have some music to play for you sometime soon. Keep your horn warm and we'll catch up at the coda.
Hi Denis.
Thank you for stopping by - and for not giving up on me - haven't been on here lately, but that'll change soon.
Hug to you and have a great week.
Hilde

Merci, Denis, pour le accueil chaleureux. It is a distinct pleasure to find myself in the midst of such a distinguished group of music lovers and musicians. I have much to learn from most of you. I look forward to exchanging ideas about jazz and its importance to us in our lives. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. Paul
Even though I never dug Guy Lombardo playing Auld Lang Syne (and probably didn't spell it right), I'm sending that old tune and sentiment you way until next year - you'll never want to hear it again! ;o) I hope the new year brings you health, love, and too much time to play your horn, listen to music, and enjoy your life. I consider our kinship a blessing, and no, our old acquaintance won't be forgot!
Here's to you and yours Denis! Maybe we'll meet in person in '09.
Hi Denis.
Hehe - thank you. Me as people usually saw me during those times. Always sleeping. My mom even started dressing me in red so she could find me if I fell asleep on my way home. :-)
And the link to the videos about Einar, Denis. Don't know how to thank you, I was really touched when I watched them.
Love and hugs

That Ben Sidran clip was very diggable! That was a great way to groove into '09. I've always liked "I Only Have Eyes For You" too, so thanks for putting that up. We sure have good taste in music, don't we! Keep the home fires and the playing burning through all this cold weather. Talk to you soon, my friend.

Thank you for your video-comment - so glad you liked it!!!!!
