No, it's Egil Kapstad playing piano on all the tracks.
And he's the one who also did all the music arrangements on the CD where I'm singing with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (the sample from that CD here is For Heaven''s Sake).
He's a fine pianist, right? I adore his playing.
Hilde
I love the song:) It saddens my heart that Stan didn't get to participate in the making, but somehow I am sure he was there in spirit as well as peoples hearts abroad. Thank you for sharing Arthur and have a wonderful evening. I am taking a break then back to the books...well book...It is a library and wealth of information all in one. :))
Hi again.
No, there's no tracks with me playing the piano.
Sorry :-))
I notice you've uploaded Jewel - I can't turn my speakers on where I'm sitting now. I'll be back SOON - can't wait to listen to it.

Hilde
Oh no... I did not know that we lost Sol... Very sad. So sorry. )-:
Body and Soul - this track is one of his best I think. And I believe it was from his first recording with his own quartet, late 40's or early 50's.
Small World was done in 1988. Stan was Dir. of Jazz Studies at Stanford at that time. He had asked Huey Lewis to perform for a Children with Cancer Benefit there. Huey said of course he would come and asked Stan to be on his next CD (Small World) in return. At least that's how I remember the story! Stan loved doing it.!
Stan only played on Small World. But there's Small World and Small World part 2, which is what I have playing on my player.
Send me your email to stangetzllc@optonline.net and I'll send you the two mp3's. I had a hard time finding the CD myself. But I did track it down and now have it on my computer! YAY! I really love what he's doing on it!! Too funny! But very good! (-:
Thank you Arthur:) I would not want any bombardments but those that will be happening "in air" tonight as we celebrate our independance:) God bless you & yours
How RIGHT ON you are!!! This is a WONDERFUL SITE!!!!
In fact so much so, I'm remiss in replying in affirmative to a
recent invitation to join the NYC Jazz Group...but plan to ASAP.
Great to hear from you, SUPER MUSICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD ARTHUR!!!! Wow! I almost cried listening to All Or Nothing...! AMAZING VOICINGS! Hate to say this... but... this is (almost) too beautiful for Mr. Valli! O~: (Ooops! Did I just say that?!) Kidding! He sounds great. You and your son have great singing chops, too! Did you ever send this to Gene Puerling (Singers Unlimited)! They would have done it justice as well... yes?!
Thank you Arthur... for sharing this track with us! I really love it!
Hey my friend. Yes I know it has been "long time no talk: :( How are you? I have been so busy studying for my anatomy and physiol. final, I haven't brains to think with. I am in that process as we speak:) I will b glad to be through this phase of the long haul. Hard work always pays off in the end...so...I should be a wealthy woman by the time this whole song and dance is completed...HAaa lol;)))Have a wonderful weekend Arthur:) Blessings to you
Well I gotta tellya...I lobve your wife! She is so fun and energetic..my kinda people:) Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed that thoroughly:) You two make a truely wonderful dynamic duo..God bless you both:)))
Hey Arthur, Hope you and Linda are having a great misic filled weekend:) I had to "steal" your "All or Nothing at All." I love me some Franki Valli. Hey:))) Love the "Now is the Time-ABC!" Talented man you are sir(-:0
Hey Artie, Its great to meet both you and your talented wife Linda here at Stan's Place. Your bio is truly amazing. You were at all the right places at the right time. lol But it more than pure luck. To go the distance that you have, you have to be good. Plain and simple. What a lifetime full of of music you have had. From gigs to arranging and writing for studio, Films and TV. You have done it all ! Would love to hear more please keep in touch. - Louis
I lived in Union/Irvington between 1957 and 1980, so a bit after you. I lived with my Grandparents at that time and I remember many trips to Olympic Park. Also, we used to bring our sleds over to the steep hill at Irvington Hospital on Chancellor Ave. When you were still living in NJ/Irvington, did you ever get to go to the Cove in Roselle Park, NJ? The Morris Nanton Trio?
You, Sarah Vaughan, Wayne Shorter and my Mom went to Arts High! My Uncle Phil was the bartender at The Cove for 20+ years. I think that's the only reason I was allowed to sneak in there when I was under age.
My Mom was not a musician or in the arts. She went to Arts High School because she was very sick; born with a bad heart. I believe Arts High was the only school in Newark with an elevator, so that's where she was allowed to attend and graduate. I'm going to say she graduated in 1950 or '51. Sorry I wasn't clear about that. My adoptive Mom is a musician (vocalist Rebecca Parris), but she is originally from the Boston area.
Ahhhh...pat Senatore, who books Vibrato in Bel Air and recorded one of my favorite trio recordings - with Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins. I didn't know he was from NJ!!! Thanks for the info, Artie.
Though I never met him, I heard about the famous Chris Columbo for many years and of course, Sonny Payne! A friend of mine knew him quite well - pianist George Mesterhazy, who is originally from the Atlantic City area and still living down in S. Jersey (Cape May). George played the casinos for many years and most recently, was the late Shirley Horn's musical director/pianist when she could no longer play. Another person from A.C. I personally knew, I met through Sarah Vaughan - Carlos (and I"m forgetting his last name). He was involved with the A.C. musicians' union local for many years.
I'm guessing there isn't much jazz out your way these days. What was the name of the club - The 4 Queens? They used to have jazz regularly back in the 90's? I did get to hear Buddy Rich's big band at Joey Diamond's 500 Club or something like that back in the 70's in A.C. I'm assuming by then you had moved from N.J.?
my gig last sat .michael ray tyler trmp, bob scann trom,ty lemley bass, george pollock piano, bruce harper drums,&me.it was great.the way we played behind jeannie and our own personal solos was fantastic.see ya, don
George plays just about 6 nights a week at The Merion Inn in Cape May and does occasional gigs here and there, but the Merion Inn is a full time commitment until the end of the year each year. He's also now teaching at a local college and is really enjoying that.
I haven't taken the plunge to visit Vegas just yet. I have so many friends in the L.A. area that I have a difficult time going elsewhere.
I'm going to L.A. Thursday for a memorial service/tribute for pianist Gerry Wiggins, who passed away on July 13. Just going for 5 days. I'm assuming you get to L.A. more often since your children are there. Thursday evening, I'm going to hear Don Menza, Tom Ranier, etc. at Charlie O's in Van Nuys.
Hi Arthur...I just received the sad news in the midst of homework. I am very sorry to hear of this. All are in my thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort. Blessings to you my friend.
Hi Arthur, We're very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Joe. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you all his family and friends. He was an amazing drummer, from the old school, when the big bands ruled. May all the wonderful memories you've shared with Joe help you through this sad time, and may God’s Peace Surround You. - Louis and Eva
Hey Arthur....how are ya?:) I know I have been a stranger in these parts compared to my everyday, sometimes twice a day refuge. School has evolved into this big giant that I must slay...lol AND I will:)) It leaves me very little time to think to do much else, but this too shall pass. Have an excellent weekend cause we almost there..hehe. I vow to myself (fingers crossed;) ) to take one day off (-:0
What a wonderful story you have Arthur...and I LOVED listening to "Here's to the Band"! Thank you for the friendship and have a wonderful week!
All the Best!
Joannah
I'm back from L.A. and while there for my friend Gerry Wiggins' memorial/tribute, I did get out to Charlie O's in the Valley and heard a killin' group led by Don Menza, with Tom Ranier, Bill Riechenbach (sp?), Chris Conner and Steve Schaeffer.
Hey Arthur:) I saw your light on when I signed in and stopped in to say hello. I actually have time to travel around the MANY music nets and get some good listening in. Have an excellent weekend my friend....blessings to y'all(-:O
